Fana

Fana comes from the source collection Wahim which was written between July and August 2025. Wahim as a whole was very much a “writing to survive” project, coming about as I processed the first severe medical situations I responded to– requiring EMS– at my workplace.
At the heart of Wahim is Fana written while I hold the memory of that medical situation, which was a suspected heart attack. The choice of Persian and Sufi imagery comes from the person I tended to, who is Iranian. They recovered after the event.
Formally speaking, Fana is written from a “Faithful” modality, due to its Sufi ties. In addition, the source collection’s title, Wahim, is itself quite esoteric. As the title Wahim (Arabic with a ballpark translation of delusional/suspicion/doubt) seemingly “came” to me one day, in tandem with introspective revelations in regards to limerence.
