Born from Water
Look and see,
How like the sea,
Life is full of tides.
Rising in the West,
One finds thrashing white-caps,
Reducing us to our core.
Rising in the East,
One finds still reflecting water,
Lulling us gently to sleep.
Both worlds,
Come from the same soul…
Requiring one side,
To give rise to the other.
There is no darkness without light,
There is no winter without summer.
Wherever you are,
You are not.
(Embers)
Born From Water comes from the source collection Embers which was written during a three-night long solo trip which I took in April of 2025. Embers is special as it originated as a conscious effort to express my “parts” (as understood through the internal family systems methodology).
While I can’t exactly remember what I was holding onto while writing Born From Water, it seems to address the “Eastern-leaning” and “Western-leaning” elements of my soul, and the duality between them. Furthermore, a slight call back to Camus’ Return to Tipasa with the mention of “Winter without summer” with the addition of a callback to The Tragically Hip’s “Born in the Water”, which is a go-to road trip song.
Born From Water features the “content” modality, a voice within my writing who attempts to make peace with “what is” in the world, while moving towards inner peace.
