Appraisal 

Meditate on this: 

When sound, sight, and feeling are aware,

We write on the beauty of nature.

When sound, sight, and feeling are asleep, 

We write on the nature of beauty.

Appraisal hails from my earliest months of writing poetry, I remember feeling elated after writing the poem. The simple switch of “beauty” and “nature” felt so clever to me. On a broader level, Appraisal kickstarted the process of incorporating nature and reflections on nature into my poetry.
